The Beatles post-Beatles
I heard 'The Long and Winding Road' this morning for the first time in a while and was reminded what a great song it is. It got me thinking, all of the Beatles (in my opinion) turned to shit about 5 years after they disbanded.

Lennon, McCartney and Harrison all released decent albums and numbers in the first few years after they disbanded in 1970, then turned to crap in the mid-70's!

Starr was always shit. Absolutely stole a living, that fella.

Alan Partridge : I like all the bands. I've got a broad taste, you know, from the Britpop bands, like UB40, Def Leppard, right back to classic rock, like Wings.

Ben : Who's Wings?

Alan Partridge : They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Re: The Beatles post-Beatles
Contrary to what the site idiot states in the OP, 'Ringo' by Ringo is probably the second or third-best solo album by any of the ex-Beatles. All Things Must Pass is great but a bit too long and Band on the Run is superb. I'm not sure Lennon had a really good solo album. Most of the rest of their output was a bit shit, really, though they all had their moments.

mmmm, who to believe? top drummers like steve gorman, jim keltner, stewart copeland, etc who cite him as a big influence and a great drummer, or some fuckwit fantasist who doesn't know his arse from his elbow?

The Beatles are great/shit is a well trodden path on here.

You'll hopefully get the attention you desire, Cum on Benrahma.

You had a thought about the Beatles and you decided that WHO was the first place you would inform about it. If only this subject hadnt been discussed before on here

Surface , One of the most popular internet myths is that Ringo was a crap drummer , l used to be a huge Beatles fan and used to read up on them , before they were huge ,everyone knows they had other band members and went after Ringo who was doing really well on the circuits, he turned them down the first few times because he was doing so well and didn’t need them but eventually agreed to join them , also you can see videos of drummers trying to keep up with songs like ,come together and birthday and they can’t do it , so much for being crap

I described the ex-Beatles' solo work as mostly, 'a bit shit'. The Beatles were a great band, the greatest, in fact, and Starr was a great drummer.

Jasper Carrot: Not even the best drummer in the Beatles
Paul McCartney: The best drummer in the world.

I wonder who knew best.

As Carrot is a Brum fan, I expect he believes and probably rightly so, that John (may he RIP) Bonham is the greatest drummer of all time?

Who knew John Bonham was in the Beatles?

On a list of top popular music drummers Starkey would definitely have a place though it would be some way below both Honey Lantrey and Karen Carpenter.

Mooney for me... yes I know he has not got the timing or tempo of all those Jazz drummers like Buddy Rich, Ginger and Elvin Jones etc.... but could they blow up their drum kit with explosives... drive Rolls Royces into swimming pools or take 10 Elephant tranqualisers and STILL play drums.... Ok he passed out half way through the concert but come on !!!

Far Cough 12:49 Wed Mar 8
Re: The Beatles post-Beatles
Surf, yeah, he was that good

Comma, Karen was indeed an excellent drummer but I'm not sure Honey Lantree is in her class?

May they both RIP

Re: The Beatles post-Beatles
In the last five years I've found a handful of Beatles tracks that I'd not before with all their very mainstream stuff. I can't work out why they weren't more well known tracks.

On the drummer business, all I would say is that I wanted a TV show on drumming recently on Sky Arts and the following people all cited Ringo Starr and one of the best technical drummers they've known and that his work with The Beatles was pioneering and light years ahead of its time. They are:

Stuart Copeland
Steve White
Chad Smith
Dave Grohl

So I'll probably lean towards their views.
